Contains 86 pages documenting the earliest history and founding of Wallace, Idaho, from Colonel Wallace's arrival in 1883 through the early 20th century. Features rare photographs of Wallace in 1887, 1888, and 1889 showing the town's rapid growth, the devastating July 27, 1890 fire that destroyed the town, and subsequent rebuilding. Includes extensive newspaper clippings from the Wallace Press-Times recounting pioneer stories, the first Christmas in Wallace (1887), early businesses including 16 saloons, and the founding of Placer Center mining district. Documents Colonel Wallace's discovery of the Black Cloud Mine and Oreornogo claim, the Carter Hotel, Heller House, Northern Pacific Depot, and early street scenes along Bank Street, Cedar Street, and Sixth Street.
