THE history of Warrington has never yet been fully and consecutively told. The material is abundant, but it is scattered through a crowd of disconnected books and pamphlets; much of it is only obtainable through the medium of the Reference Library; and, in such a form, it makes but scant appeal except to those of purely antiquarian tastes. Yet it positively teems with interest, and through it move, in shadowy succession, many of the greatest figures of the past. To weave the broken incidents into one continuous story; to seek to make the “dry bones live”; and to endeavour to bring home to its increasing multitude of citizens some real sense of all they owe to the old town of love and service is the object of the present volume.
