About this book

Dodge City Ledger

Author: Dodge City Municipal Court

Year: 1878

The Ford County Historical Society in Dodge City, Kansas owns this police docket record for the years 1878-1882. This ledger contains some unique details from the police and court cases in Dodge City, Kansas during the Wild West days. References to historical figures such as Bat Masterson and Wyatt Earp, who called Dodge City home during those years, are logged on the pages of the ledger. The ledger had been missing from the city since the 1950’s, and it was found at an auction house in Arizona in 2007. Through the efforts of the Ford County Sheriff’s office and the FBI, the docket made its way back to Dodge City in 2009. The Ford County Historical Society wanted to preserve it and share with people through a digital collection. Forsyth Library was honored to scan the docket book for the Society and is pleased to have it as part of our Digital Collections.
