Divine Art of Living by Kathleen Besly is a compact, yet powerful work within the Divine Science School of New Thought. The Divine Science "transdenomination" of New Thought has shrunk to about 13 churches / centres. At one time the largest New Thought denomination (transdenomination), Divine Science was founded by Malinda Cramer in San Francisco. Although some attribute the initial publication of Divine Art of Living to the Denver branch of Divine Science, it was in fact published in 1917 by Rand McNally in Chicago. This mistake is most likely due to the fact that the Brooks sisters of Denver had to take the lead of Divine Science after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Quite strong in the mid-20th Century, the Denver branch experienced a decline attributed by some to its leadership and by others to a departure from "principle" as well as an odd paranoia that this religious school was simply a "degree mill." Such fears make no sense because up until at least the end of the 20th century, the school had a solid curriculum.
