This want is that of a short and clear account of the foundation-principles, or the reason, of Discipline. In order that one may carry out any course of action in an intelligent and consistent manner, it is first necessary to get a clear grasp of the principles on which such course of action is founded, otherwise one is always liable, unknowingly, to make mistakes in carrying it out. So it is with Discipline. Unless one has got a clear grasp of the principles on which Discipline rests, of the reasons for its strict regulations, one is apt to sometimes fancy that its restraints are greater than the necessities of order and obedience demand, or, in other words, one cannot see the reason of living at such cons
