Report of Committee on Arts and Sciences, Communication from His Honor the Mayor, Recommending the Purchase of Hubard;s Duplicate Copy of the Statue of Washington by Houdon, Charles W. Baker, Printer, 29 Beekman Street, New York, New York, 1860. Letters relating to the creation of the original 1792 statue by Jean-Antoine Houdin, and the 1857 cast of the original made by William James Hubard. The cast was not purchased by New York City until 1884, and today sits in the City Hall. To make the original statue, George Washington was fully encased, nude, in plaster.
