The logbook of the ship Commerce details a voyage from New York to Norfolk, Va.; Richmond, Va.; Bremen, Germany; Salvador, Brazil; Ushant [i.e. Ouessant Island], France; Hamburg, Germany; Savannah, Ga.; Liverpool, England; and Salem, Mass. (June 1818 to Aug. 1820). Home port was Salem, Mass.; owners were John Gardner and his son John Gardner; master was the younger John Gardner; log keeper was Thomas West Gardner. It is an incomplete daily log describing wind, weather, location, sightings of ships, provisions, and shipboard occupations. Bound with the ship China.
