They do not give information as to the details of batteries, with which the remainder of the Course is concerned, as these details are continually changing, and are in part confidential; in addition to which they are really a matter of construction and do not affect the general intention of the Course, which is to give grounding in the principles upon which coast defences are based. It must be understood, moreover, that these notes do not go further than their title implies, and that a coast defence scheme must include efficient means of lighting, communication, etc., etc., in addition to the actual batteries and their accessories".
