Collection consists of three handwritten volumes that document painting sales of the Christie's London auction house from 1910 to 1945. The sales index is organized alphabetically by artist's name, with sale dates listed chronologically beneath the artist. Sales information includes title of work, size (in centimeters), date of sale, lot number, owner, buyer, and price paid (in British pounds). Buyers and sellers include institutions, art dealers, and individuals. Individuals are listed by last name only. While artists' names are generally recorded alphabetically, some names are out of order, and some have been entered twice under different variations of the name. Volume I has 1,119 pages, with entries ranging from artists Abbey, Edwin A. to Guardi, Francesco. Volume II (855 pages) has entries ranging from Haag, C. to Rembrandt van Rijn, and Volume III (760 pages) has entries from Reynolds, Sir Joshua to Zurburan, F. Generally each page lists a single artist, although two artists with only a few sales entries may share a page. Many artists are entered across multiple pages.
