Camas Mill Photo Project The Chris Sharp-Manger Photos This second photograph shows the Camas Mill under construction on August 26, 1922, one month after the opening image in the sequence. The view has shifted, bringing the surrounding town more clearly into the frame. In the background, the McMaster Building stands above the construction site, its name still visible along the roofline and its 1916 date placing it just a few years older than the work unfolding below. The scene is layered with concrete columns, timber bracing, scaffolding, stairs, embankments, utility poles, and temporary platforms. What makes this photograph especially useful is the relationship between the construction site and the recognizable buildings behind it. The McMaster Building, the street, the slope, and the stairs offer clues to where the photographer was standing and how this part of the mill connected to the older downtown street grid. Compared with the first photograph, this view feels more architectural and ordered. The workers are less prominent, and the structure itself begins to take over.
