Manuscript comprises 320 watercolor and pencil drawings of wild flowers (two watercolors of butterflies, both signed: “Mt. W.”); all tipped-in; some are numbered in ink and all signed in lower left or right hand corners: “E.W.” and dated from “July 93-May 26 1811”; plants’ botanical names and common names inscribed in ink below most drawings; most of the locations of the flowers are inscribed in ink in lower right corners; folding sheet titled “Biographical Sketch of Mrs. Elizabeth Wharton” with manuscript text laid loosely in volume one; letter from Margaret Wharton to her cousin, Miss Wharton Aberford tipped-in front free endpaper in volume two. Bound in dark blue-green morocco; gilt; t.e.g. Spine height: 17 and 17 ¾ inches. Original held by the Oak Spring Garden Foundation, Upperville, Virginia.
