An 1887 blueprint drawn by the Beckett & McDowell Manufacturing Company of a 12"x20" steam mining hoist for flat wire rope. This hoist was used in hardrock mining to raise cars in vertical shafts. Beckett & McDowell was located in Arlington, New Jersey and was associated with the Beckett Machine Company, which produced railroad machinery in addition to mining equipment.
