About this book

Biography Of Andrew Jackson Aikens

Author: Aikens, Andrew Jackson (1828-1909)

Year: 1897

Short biography of Andrew Jackson Aikens (1828-1909) as published in the volume edited by Aikens with Lewis A. Proctor, Men of Progress: Wisconsin: A Selected List of Biographical Sketches and Portraits of the Leaders in Business, Professional, and Official Life... Published in Milwaukee, WI by The Evening Wisconsin Publishing Co., 1897. The long-time business manager of The Evening Wisconsin, Aikens is credited with the invention of "patent insides," preprinted sheets provided to small weekly newspapers at little cost which included syndicated general content and advertising on one side and left the other side blank for publication of local news and local ads. Published in the USA prior to 1923, public domain. Digitization was done by the Library of Congress. See http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/ampage for a non-downloadable digitization of the entire source book, which does not seem to be otherwise available on the net as of this writing (2016).
