Hugh Kingsmill (1889-1949) was the pseudonym generally used by Hugh Kingsmill Lunn. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Kingsmill Hugh Kingsmill (Wikipedia) The author was an officer in the Drake Battalion of the Royal Naval Division who went to France at the end of 1916. By this date the Royal Naval Division was controlled by the British Army and was now known as the 63rd (Royal Naval) Division. In February 1917 he was captured in France and spent the rest of the war in Germany, in Prisoner of War Camps for officers, in Karlsruhe and Mainz.
