The Art of the Illustrator was a series of 20 portfolios of leading illustrators published by Percy Bradshaw of the Press Art School in 1917 and 1918. Each portfolio presented six plates showing six different stages in the preparation of an illustration by that illustrator, together with a photo of illustration of the illustrator in their studio, the illustrator's signature, a biography of the illustrator, and the illustrators description of the preparation of the illustration. Note that Stage 1 of the illustration here has faded almost completely away from being in contact with the 12 page summary.
