Describes the results of experiments, made in the wind tunnel of the Bureau of Standards, on the air forces on a circular cylinder with its axis normal to the wind. A description of the wind-tunnel is given in the paper, and the results obtained are shown graphically. It is concluded that the wind-tunnel resistance equation R = ?AV/sup 2/f(VL/?) is not satisfied, but that the resistance coefficient R is a function of L, the diam. of the cylinder, as well as of VL/?, where ? = viscosity/?. The velocity fields about cylinders of different diams. at identical values of VL/? are not geometrically similar.
