Modern instrument transformers have such good characteristics that it is not easy to determine their constants by using wattmeters or watt-hour meters in both primary and secondary circuits. The small differences to be measured are masked by errors of measurement, and such a method is not applicable to high voltages or large current-ranges. A modern induction watt-hour meter, however, can be used to determine /b difference/ in ratios and /b difference/ in phase angles between two voltage- or current-transformers of the same range, and one of these may be a standard transformer of known characteristics.
