When it is desired to determine the resistivity of a fairly large portion of earth extending to a considerable depth, and it is not possible to disturb the portion of the earth to be measured, the following method is applicable. Four holes, 1, 2, 3, 4, are made in the earth approximately uniformly spaced in a straight line. The diam, of the holes is not more than 10% of the distance /b a/ between them, and all holes extend to approximately the same depth /b b/, usually that depth at which we are most concerned with the resistivity.
