This story is attributed to Lyulph, the pen name of Henry Robert Lumley. The story is a humorous "reply" to one of Charles Dickens's and friends' Mugby Junction stories. There are eight Mugby Junction stories, four by Charles Dickens and one each by Andrew Halliday, Charles Collins, Hesba Stretton, and Amelia B Edwards. The original edition is available on Internet Archive under the title "Mugby junction, the extra Christmas number of All the year round". It is printed in double columns. For those looking for a complete collection of the stories in single-column format, the best edition is probably one on Google Books listed as follows: "1866. Mugby Junction, by C. Dickens [and others." The book was published by Chapman and Hall (probably in 1867), reprinted in 1898. Also all eight stories are included in an 1867 Tauchnitz edition on Internet Archive listed as "Doctor Marigold's Prescriptions by Charles Dickens", beginning on page 179.
