About this book
A few notes on Shakespeare; with occasional remarks on the emendations of the manuscript-corrector in Mr. Collier’s copy of the Folio 1632. By the Rev. Alexander Dyce
Author: Dyce, Alexander
Year: 1853
8vo. ff. [2], pp. [vii]-viii, [9]-156. Signatures: [A]4 B-T4 U2. Inscription by Lowell and Elmwood, and label of Smith, Elder and Co. on front pastedown. James Russell Lowell’s copy, with his notes. A rather patchy collection of notes on some 170 passages, largely critical of the Old Corrector of the Perkins Folio, but sometimes merely explanatory or illustrative. Dyce passed over in silence many of the more challenging emendations. See A. & J. Freeman, John Payne Collier. Scholarship and Forgery in the Nineteenth Century. New Haven, 2004, I, pp. 607-608.
