"..In going up the Holy Steps it is not necessary to stay long , or to recite long prayers at each Step. It is sufficient to ascend devoutly from one to the other , thinking meanwhile on the passion of our Lord, or reciting the Our Father or Hail Mary, so as not to hinder or disturb those who follow. To such however as may wish to meditate with fruit, and in order, on the Passion of our Redeemer the following pious considerations and prayers taken from the Gospel history are proposed."
