WANTS TO KNOW FIRST DETECTIVE’S ATTITUDE Says He Will Insist Upon Being Present at Any In- terview—Barrett’s Claim for Reward Denied. It is decidedly probable that Detective William J. Burns will not be permitted to quiz Jim Conley, the convicted accomplice in the Leo Frank case. This was evident in an interview given out last night by William M. Smith, the negro’s counsel. Smith stated positively to a reporter of The Constitution that he would not allow the famous detective to put his client under a sweating interrogation. Also, that Burns would not be permitted to interview Conley except in the presence of the prisoner’s attorney. Besides this, it is said that the detective will have to agree to other conditions before he will even be admitted to the negro sweeper’s cell.
