The introduction to the letters is as follows: "ORLANDO HOUGH WAS PROSPECTING FOR SILVER NEAR HOUGH SPRINGS IN LAKE CO. IN MAR 1875. IN LAFAYETTE A TRAVELING DENTIST CAME TO FILL TEETH WITH GOLD OR TO PULL TEETH. IN JUNE ORLANDO HOUGH WAS TRYING TO GET THE SILVER ROCK ASSAYED BY WARREN BROWN. AT HOUGH SPRINGS ALL THEIR CABINS WERE RENTED. THEY WERE PUTTING UP A TEMPORARY BARN IN OCT. THE HAY CROP WAS VERY GOOD THAT YEAR SELLING FOR $15-$18./TON."
