Valley (in Tredyffrin) Friend Enoch Walker purchases "Moore Hall" in Charlestown in 1800. Oral history (by Sarah Pennypacker in 1909) states the west portion of Schuylkill Friends Meeting House was built in 1807. Historians claim the Meeting began on various dates; such as: * 1818 on page 2 of, A Brief History of Schuylkill Township by Sandy Momyer * 1815 on page 1 of, Schuylkill Friends Meeting and the Underground Railroad by Sandy Momyer 2016 * 1812 of, A Brief History of Valley Friends Meeting by Valley Friends Meeting 2008 & * 1805 in, Memoirs of the Life of James Cockburn 1838 Road dockets suggest there was a Meeting House where Friends of Charlestown worshiped on a road "leading from White Horse" in 1802. This Meeting is on North White Horse Road. This would suggest the Meeting began no later than 1802. However, the building could have been built at a later date. The sense of the Meeting is that this Meeting began in 1807. The township, state and Meeting celebrated their 200th anniversary in 2007. Additional Schuylkill Friends Related Items
